Eating Processed Meat Affects Mental Health, Really?

A new study by Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine says eating processed meat can be linked to mental health. Patients with asing mental states, such as hyperactivity, euphoria, and insomnia are considered more likely to consume processed meats such as bacon, hot dogs, or ham three times.

Published in the journal Molecular Psychiatry that people taking nitrates are more likely to experience poor health. Nitrates are chemicals that are often used to heal and preserve processed meats.

Not yet known the pattern of influence

Robert Yolken, M.D said in his journal that now dietary patterns will change to reduce the risk of mental health decline in those with bipolar disorder.

"We see a number of different dietary exposures and the preserved meat really stands out," he says.

It is not yet clear how this processed meat pattern affects a person's mental health. But for sure, when a person has experienced an episode of mania, he will be more susceptible to other bipolar symptoms and schizophrenia disorders.

So the trigger factor 

Those in a condition of mania may experience increased mood and delusional thinking. Mania becomes a state in which complex neuropsychiatry. Genetic susceptibility as well as environmental factors can be factors that cause more severe bipolar disorder.

"Our results show that meat preserved with nitration can be one of the players that causes mania," says Kellie Tamashiro.
